Author Notes: These colorful cards are so much fun to make. You are literally arranging flowers -- paper flowers -- to make a gorgeous greeting card bouquet. No two come out exactly alike!

Start with old floral greeting cards, wallpaper, or floral printed scrapbook paper (you need two or more copies of each individual flower). Take scissors and cut out individual flowers and leaves (this is good busy work to do while watching television). When it comes time to assemble the card, you can arrange you cutouts to your pleasing, then use pop dot foam adhesives to layer leaves and petals over your base to give the bouquet a three-dimensional quality.

These cards are great for all kinds of celebrations.

Supplies: For Each Card:
blank card and envelope
patterned background paper (we used stripes)
contrasting color paper for lower band
Fiskar's border punch*
craft knife
2 small pieces ribbon in a coordinating color
paper flower cutouts (see notes above)
adhesive of choice (glue stick, Xyron machine, etc.)
pop dots foam adhesives
Instructions:

1. Cut your background paper (stripes in the example above) 1/2 inch less in length and width than your card blank. Cover back of background paper with your adhesive of choice, or run it through an adhesive machine. Center the background paper on the card blank and glue down.

2. Prepare the bottom band (the deep purple part in the photo above) by cutting a strip of paper that will fit across the bottom width of the card and about 1/3 the height of your card. Use a border punch to punch a decorative design along both long edges of the band. (If you don't have a border punch, see notes at the bottom of the page).

3. Use a craft knife to cut a slit the width of your ribbon about 1/4 to 1/2 inch (depending on the size of your overall card) from the end of each edge of the border punched band. Cut 4 more slits -- two on each side, in a straight row across the band, leaving a wide center space. Starting from the back side, thread each piece of ribbon through the slits on either end of the band. Clip the ends of the ribbon on the back and tape down.. Weave the ribbons through the remain slits, to meet in the middle. Tie the two ribbon pieces in a center bow, as shown in the photo above.

4. Use your adhesive of choice to adhere the band to the bottom of the card.

Step 5.
Begin arranging your flowers by placing a flat base layer down with regular adhesives (as opposed to pop dots). You will begin to layer upon this in the next step, but right now you are created the underlying base layer of flowers.

While photo #4 shows flowers being arranged "in a vase" for another card design in this series, the technique for building the floral bouquet in this card is essentially the same, except that in this card, the flowers are growling out the bottom band in a more free form fashion.

Step 6.
Look at your base and decide where you will layer other flowers and/or individual petals and leaves. Cut out the necessary parts and pieces and attach pop dots to the backs of these elements.

FRUGAL TIP: You can use pieces of the backing as well as the dots when using foam backed adhesives (as shown above) -- no waste!

Step 7.
Start building three dimensional layers by sticking the pop-dotted elements over the base flowers. Continue adding and layering until you are happy with the finished look of the bouquet.
*BORDER PUNCH INFO AND ALTERNATIVES
We used Fiskar's heart design border punch. You could just as easily use other border punch designs. Don't have a border punch? Use decorative scissors to cut the contrasting color paper for the bottom of the card and thread the ribbon through as in the instructions above.
