Author Notes: Everyone loves these candy dipped cookies so much, they'd never guess that they're super easy to make. While you can use tempered chocolate to make these treats, candy melts make the job ultra simple -- just melt and dip.

Ingredients: chocolate and white chocolate candy melts
chocolate sandwich cookies
optional melted white chocolate tinted* (we used red and green in the photo at right)
optional decorative spinkles and jimmies
Instructions:

Makes about 4 dozen spoons

Melt candy melts in microwave, double boiler or oven set on lowest temperature. Or follow directions to melt and temper chocolate.

If you want to completely coat the cookies, dip one side, let dry before dipping the second side (see photos below).

You can also choose to dip only half the cookie -- in which case, stand on end on waxed paper to dry.

Before the chocolate sets, sprinkle with colored jimmies, if desired. Alternatively, you can color some of the melted white chocolate and drizzle it decoratively over the cookies.

* To tint chocolate or candy melts do not use regular food colorings (both liquid and paste) -- they will cause the candy to "seize" and get grainy. Use only special powder or gel candy colors.

These are fabulous and very simple

I loved these cookies. They were very simple and very fast to do. I made some slight variations to the recipe. 1 bag of semi sweet chocolate chips (you can also substitute 1 bag of white chocolate chips) 1-2 tablespoons Crisco. I add the crisco to make the chocolate harden nicely as well as to give it a nice sheen. Melt in the microwave on 50% power checking every 1-2 minutes and stirring. This makes it go super fast! When fully melted, dunk the cookie into the melted chocolate using a fork to balance the cookie. Tap the fork on the edge of the bowl and then pull fork along the edge of the bowl to get off most of the excess chocolate. Set on a waxed paper lined cookie sheets to dry. Add decorative sprinkles or tinted gels. After 1 tray is finished place in the refrigerator for about 5 minutes to dry.
