Vellum paper is semitransparent and can be used for a variety of paper crafts and special effects. Vellum comes in plain white, or in colors, or with all kinds of special designs and printing on it. It's translucent properties make it interesting to layer on top of patterned papers (like in the photo at right).
Because it is semitransparent, you must take special care when adhering vellum, as most adhesives will show through the paper. One solution is to use brads or eyelets rather than adhesives to attach vellum to other papers. If your vellum has a pattern or has other elements (such as stickers) glued to it, you can hide the adhesive under these other elements.
You can make a wonderful stained glass effect by stamping an outline design on vellum, then using felt tips markers to color on the back side of the paper. The vellum will filter the color, giving it a lovely, lighter effect.
Check out the related projects below for some creative ways to put vellum to use in your crafting.
