Plan the perfect Mother's Day brunch

Make Your Menu
"When it comes to mom's day, you want to make a really beautiful breakfast to start the day right," said Sandra Lee, editor-in-chief of Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade magazine and the host of two highly rated television shows on Food Network. "Serve something satisfying that doesn't have a lot of calories, like a chilled carrot and pear soup or a simple croissant with a poached egg and a little bit of proscuitto." Lee also recommends a savory gruyere-bacon tart, but if you want to keep it low-carb, opt for a bacon quiche or a crustless Florentine tart.
Unwind with Wine
Being a mom is a full-time job, so Mother's Day is the perfect time to let your mother kick back with a glass of her favorite wine — even during brunch. Clos du Bois is an affordable and refined wine produced in Sonoma County.
For a lighter meal, serve the most popular Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc. For a heavier brunch, try the Cabernet Sauvignon or a Merlot.
Don't Forget Flowers
As April showers yield to May flowers, beautiful spring blooms are the perfect way to decorate your table for a Mother's Day brunch. "While roses are always a beautiful option, floral centerpieces with peonies are the perfect choice for Mother's Day to create an overall décor effect that's feminine, yet strong," said San Francisco-based interior designer Cecilie Starin. "The centerpiece can be a takeaway gift for mom as well."
Starin also suggested a fresh, spring theme — whether your party is indoors or out — which means florals, botanicals, and fruit as décor accented with colorful creatures like butterflies, dragonflies, etc. Check out this list of flowers for Mother's Day.
Special Sweet Treats
Mother's Day is the perfect occasion to indulge in a sweet treat. If you like to bake, make mom her favorite cake, cookies or brownies. If your kitchen skills are less-than-stellar, look for a personalized store bought option.
Chicago-based online cupcake bakery Foiled Cupcakes offers signature Quippies on each cupcake. Order mom a dozen cupcakes and you're basically sending 12 cards in one box.
